Balancing Serenity and a Busy Life
Why isn’t everything just perfect all the time? Perfect balance. You either have all the time in the world and no money, or all the money and no time. Walking that tightrope, getting that perfect balance is something that eludes me.
Recently, I’ve been busy with the success of my new book, Accidental SEAL. I am thrilled with how well it’s doing. And it has helped me in writing the second one, just knowing I can sell that one too. I think about all the angst and worry over its acceptance, which I think every author does, and when you press the “enter” key and it’s uploaded, there you are, exposed to everyone in cyberspace. Will they like it? Will it take off? Will it slowly grow? Will it pop and then fizzle? Who knows?
I guess what sustains me is I just keep writing. And I write things I love to read, and to write. I keep connecting. I’ve been reminded very nicely I need to keep my blogging up, and I go hot and cold with this. Hardest to do when I am busy, but when I’m busy, that’s when I need to do it.
So then I have to look at all the other things I can cut out. Water the garden? No. Feed the dogs? No. Critique Group? No. Writer’s Meetings? No. Office Meetings? No. Client Meetings (I still sell real estate)? No.
Ah!!! I HAVE IT!!!!!

That balance thing can be such a tough one. Sounds like you are doing it well. I need to tip the scales more in favor of non-blog writing, but it seems like things keep popping up to interfere. Life can be so full, but I guess that is good in its own way.

Balancing life is hard. I had to learn to squeeze exercise and drinking water (hate it) into my life.

Housework is overrated anyway!
For me it's cutting back on computer games and some blogging in order to write.
Yes. Again, balance. I had a problem with computer games in the past. Blogging kind of blew those up for me, and then took over stronger than ever. If you do both and still try to write, you are a better person than I am!!
Balancing is a tough act. Congrats on the success of your first book! Ah yes, and chores–can't get away from those, no matter how well your writing is going:)

Always the chores, Nutschell. Never stops, does it. What did I do with 4 kids at home? Well, I didn't write very much then, that's what. Now it's just my husband, but he can be like one of my kids…(hope he doesn't read this).

Thanks Dezmond! We could learn a lot from the samurais. That focus, strength without wasted energy. That's really what we're talking about here. Using the flow of the day to achieve the desired result.

Thank you, Judy. Boy there were days when I wasn't sure I could hold it all together. Didn't even know what I was doing wrong until years later. Now I know I have to take it slow. If I have balance, I have everything…
