A Month of Stories
Welcome to the 2013 A-Z Blog Challenge. This will be the third year I have done this. I decided to do 26 Days of Stories, one for every letter of the alphabet.
My husband and I are traveling this Easter week, and we’ve landed in Fayetteville, N.C. The brochures call it America’s Home Town. We’re going to visit the Airborne and Special Ops Museum on Tuesday, but tomorrow, we’re going to visit an artist community nearby.
So, here’s my day after Easter story. When my third child, Jaime, was about 4 years old, she had been recently told about Santa Claus by her two older siblings.
“Mom, why do parents lie to their children?” she asked. It didn’t fit with the values we had instilled in her about always being truthful.
I decided I’d give her some sage motherly advice, and try my best to explain the justification that parents just wanted to bring joy to their children by creating Santa Claus, and the promise of getting gifts for “being good.” Only, I didn’t get that far.
I began by saying, “Well, it’s like the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny–“
Jaime looked at me in horror. “Oh, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny too?”
I had managed to ruin not one, but three of Jaime’s childhood fantasies, at the same time.
Hope you’ll come back tomorrow. Meanwhile, enjoy some of the other blogs in the A-Z Blog Challenge – over 1600 of them this year, by clicking here.
🙂 I've had those mommy moments, too.
LOL. One thing to have their dreams dashed by siblings, but quite another to have it come from mom. Glad to know I'm not the only one.
Its awful when they get told too early, i loved doing the easter bunny footprints for my daughter
Me too. At least I got to do it with my first two.
Oops.
LOL
Aw, kind of sad, but it still made me giggle. By the way, it's nice to meet you! I'm over from the A2Z (#149).
Same to you, Nancy. I'm out of town, and a little "behinder" than others but I'll make it over there.
LOL! Oh dear.
Yes, upset me no end.
LOL This is awesome!! I love "Mommy Moments!"

Connie – I'll be over there in the next day or two. Yes, Mommy Moments, among other things, is what I'm known for…
super cute story! I just had a similar conversation recently with my eldest. He doesn't believe in the bunny but still wants his easter egg hunt loot!
Oh this made me chuckle!! Similarly, my mother destroyed my childhood fantasy about Santa a few weeks before Xmas with the comment "now, you know how I told you there is no Santa, well dad and I were thinking of getting you xyz for xmas…" I didn't hear the rest of the sentence, my heart stopped at "there is no Santa?". She thought she had told me, but she never had!! I am now 38 yrs old and I still bring this up every Xmas!
Looking forward to reading more of your A to Z posts. As a first year A-to-Z-er it's encouraging to come across someone who has participated more than once!
